The Cookie Thief
By: Valerie Cox

A woman was waiting at an airport one night

With several long hours before her flight

She hunted for a book in the airport shop

Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop

She was engrossed in her book but happened to see

That the man beside her as bold as could be

Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag between

Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene

She munched cookies and watched the clock

As this gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock

She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by

Thinking "If I wasn't so nice I'd blacken his eye"

With each cookie she took he took one too

And when only one was left she wondered what he'd do

With a smile on his face and a nervous laugh

He took the last cookie and broke it in half

He offered her half as he ate the other

She snatched it from him and thought "Oh brother

This guy has some nerve and he's also rude

Why he didn't even show any gratitude"

She had never known when she had been so galled

And sighed with relief when her flight was called

She gathered her belongings and headed for the gate

Refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate

She boarded the plane and sank in her seat

Then sought her book which was almost complete

As she reached in her baggage she gasped with surprise

There was her bag of cookies in front of her eyes

"If mine are here" she moaned with despair

"Then the others were his and he tried to share"

"Too late to apologize she realized with grief"

That she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief

Awww. Come on! You know that made you SMILE :)

Cloth Diaper Review/Giveaway from Pooters! A+++ ENDED

Winner # 28. Independent Mami!

Cloth diapering has been an adventure for us!  Having never done it with any of our other children, I was really excited to try it this time with our new baby. We have tried so many kinds now and we have found some that work and some that don't be we still haven't found a diaper that I would say I LOVE!  Well, at least I didn't until I was introducted to Pooters!

First of all, before I talk about the diapers I received to review, let me tell you the best part about Pooters. It has to be their awesome customer service!!  From the first time I spoke to Maj from Pooters, I was so impressed and so very thankful that I was able to talk to her!  She has been a lifeline for me and has given me the best advice and tips on cloth diapering!  Boys are a lot different when it comes to diapering and I was having the hardest time with Aiden soaking out the top of his diapers.  Here is the great advice I received from her!  I made it a different color so you would know these are her words, not mine!  She is definitely the expert here!

1. For daytime naps try turning his little 'fire hydrant' down when putting on the diaper. This helps with making the pee go down into the diaper, versus up and out.

2. Try diapers with elastic in the front.  The elastic in the front eliminates that little gap that you sometimes get in the front no matter how snug the diaper is. This will also help to keep pee in its place.

3. For nighttime I recommended a hemp or bamboo fitted diaper with a fleece or wool cover.

In my experience pockets and all in ones aren't the best for holding leaks - particularly at night, long durations and particularly for boys. I have yet to find one that will work for my son and I've gone through at least 20 brands. The best, bullet-proof solution seems to be fitted diapers with a cover. For nighttime, my favorite of course is my Pooters Hemp fitted because hemp is so ridiculously absorbent. It also has a snap in doubler that I fold over in the front for added absorbency where he wets the most. I will warn you that a fleece cover over this diaper will make it bulky but it's a cheap, bullet-proof combo. A wool cover would make for a trimmer fit, but a bit more expensive (around $25).

Here's a link on my website for other brand names that mom's recommend for fitted diapers and covers.

http://www.pootersdiapers.com/nighttime-cloth-diapers/

4. For the daytime, I use pocket diapers but stuff them with hemp or bamboo inserts. Fleece inserts work okay for my son, but hemp and bamboo are just naturally more absorbent and they always do a good job of holding moisture and for longer periods of time if necessary.

5. Create an account with DiaperSwappers.com. You can buy and sell new and used diapers here between other moms.

What awesome advice!  I want to thank Maj for giving me the great advice. This is one of the reasons why I prefer to purchase products from a company like Pooters. The Customer Service is just awesome!   Now, on to their products! Pooters sent me the following products to review:

1. Pooters Hemp Fitted diaper

2. Pooters Bamboo Fitted diaper

3. Pooters Bamboo pocket diaper

4. Extra Pooters Bamboo Insert

These diapers are truly awesome!!!  They were an awesome fit and we didn't have any problems at all with leaking or anything, not even during long naps or bedtime.  Aside from being absolutely adorable, they really did keep our baby nice and dry!  The Bamboo Pocket Diapers are available in some really adorable colors! We received the blue on and it is so cute on our little guy! The other awesome thing is that they are seriously affordable!  You can buy the Pooters Fitted Diaper for just $12. Most of the inserts you need are only $3 each and the Pocket Diapers are just around $20 each.  This is definitely money well spent!!!  With all my heart I say you would definitely be CRAZY not to try Pooters cloth diapers out if you are interested in cloth diapering!!

Beautiful Mother/Daughter Jewelry Set Giveaway from YouniquelyChic

Mother's Day is just around the corner which means millions of people are out searching for the perfect gift to show their Mom they care.  Look no further.  You all know I have a special love for Etsy shops and I was so impressed with the awesome products made by Tara at Youniquely Chic!!!

About Tara, owner of YouniquelyChic:

"My name is Tara and I am a "stay at home mom" with 4 children, 4 dogs and a wonderful husband who just retired after 26 years in the Air Force. We are finally living our dream as we recently relocated to the Seattle area in the beautiful Pacific Northwest! I run a home based jewelry business which features necklaces and earrings with Swarovski and Preciosa crystals as the main components. I like nothing better than to sit and create beautiful jewelry.

About 3 years ago I Had a friend who started making simple jewelry to sell to her friends, well it wasn’t long before I started making some items for myself using plastic and glass beads, then I discovered Swarovski crystals for sale at a local craft store and that is when it all started! I’ve always had love of crystals, the way they catch the light has always appealed to me. About a year later I decided to open an Ebay shop because I was getting very favorable response to the jewelry I was making for friends and family, but soon gave that up as I was paying more in listing fees then I was selling… Then I discovered Etsy, I was amazed at the sense of community I found there… I opened my shop and never looked back."

Right now Tara is having a BOGO sale for Mother’s Day… buy 1 item from her shop and get your choice of a 2nd item for FREE! (lower priced item is free) All you have to do to get this deal is add your first item to your cart and put a note in “Message to Seller” with the title of your free choice… or send her either a convo on etsy or an email to: Youniquely_Chic@comcast.ne and tell her your free choice... Visit herEtsy shop now: http://youniquelychic.etsy.com/

How awesome is that?!  But wait, there is definitely more!  Tara has made the most beautiful Mother/Daughter set for a special Mommy and her little princess and one of you are going to win it!!!  This is one of those times where I wish I could enter my own giveaway!!  haha  Seriously though, check out this special set.

Necklace and Earring set descriptions…

2 necklaces and earring sets, one for Mom and one for daughter!

2 matching necklaces are the definition of simplicity with a single Bermuda blue Swarovski crystal heart dangling below a bar chain link which in turn is below a single Capri blue Swarovski crystal bicone… The more elaborate necklace has a 6mm bicone and a 14mm heart, the simpler set has a 4mm bicone and a 10mm heart… Both necklaces are on a 2mm silver plated rolo chain with a lobster claw clasp and a 4 inch extender chain with a single 4mm Capri blue crystal serving as a weight. I made these necklaces a bit shorter than my usual sets, at 17 inches they will sit a bit higher but the extra inch in the extender chain lets you decide how long you want them to be.

The matching earrings go with the necklaces perfectly using the same components and crystals… One long and elaborate set using a a bar chain link below a 6mm Capri blue Swarovski bicone and 10mm Bermuda blue hearts at the bottom make up the fancy set… And a simple set with just a 4mm Capri blue bicone above a 10mm Bermuda blue heart.
Dimensions:

Bold Pendant: 1 ¼ inches long

Bold Earrings: 2 inches long

Sterling silver French hooks for pierced ears

Simple Necklace: 1 inch long

Simple Earrings: 1 ½ inches long

Sterling silver French hooks for pierced ears

And now for some Wednesday Fun!  I found this on the net and thought it was hysterical!

Dear Diary,

For my birthday this year, my husband gave me a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. Friends seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY: Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god -- with blond hair, dancing eyes, and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!! Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring! Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!

TUESDAY: I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It's a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY: The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot. Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster. Why would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other stuff too.

THURSDAY: Christo was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being a half an hour late -- it took me that long to tie my shoes. He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny girl to find me. Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine -- which I sank.

FRIDAY: I hate that jerk Christo more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic, little aerobic instructor. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it. Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps! And if you don't want dents in the floor, don't hand me the barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich. The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

SATURDAY: Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

SUNDAY: I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank God that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun -- like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say, if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!

Tot Talk DVD Review/Giveaway ENDED

Congrats #29, Holli!

I try to keep my kids active and not in front of the TV all of the time but I have to admit....sometimes it is a needed break for me. When they do watch it though, I like for it to be at least semi-educational...that makes me feel less guilty, so I was super excited to get to do a review for Tot Talk!

We received the "Globe Toddlers Adventures in France" DVD and this was a huge hit with the little one's!    I couldn't believe that my 10 week old actually sat and watched it with the rest of the kids!  We had an audience of 5 that included my baby, a 2 year old, a 3 year old and two 4 year olds and they all loved it!  I would definitely say that this would be the targeted age group for this particular movie. The kids were captivated by all of the fun music and colors and sounds on the movie and of course the older kids loved the puppets!  The older one's loved shouting out the words before they were said and they laughed a lot at the puppets!  It was a fun movie for small children and was definitely entertaining for them!  I thought it was so funny that they wanted to watch the movie in French the second time around and they laughed and enjoyed the movie just as much as when they watched it in English!

Movie Highlights:

Cow, mouse, frog, hedgehog and rooster puppets engage their audience from start to finish. The French love their food, and children will, too, by learning about France's most-craved delights. Witness a goat being milked and the process of making goat cheese. Don't be surprised if your child asks if cheese comes from animals. See children in French berets toting baguettes on their bicycles, and others devouring croissants. There is so much to learn: Red and green grapes, when squished, make the best grape juice in the world! Stinky cheese is great! Puppets will cleverly demonstrate how to design a dress and that eggs come from chickens. Children will walk the fashion runway in high French style. And young French chefs will allow a peek into their Vilac kitchen. Parents will be entertained when their children dance and clap to Offenbach's Can-Can masterpiece in the grand, final scene of the DVD.

There couldn't be a nicer person than Sara, the creator of Tot Talk.   I loved reading about her and what inspired her to create Tot Talk.  They have so many great products, including additional DVD's, CD's, Puppets and Placemats.

GIVEAWAY!!!

One of you are going to win a copy of Tot Talks DVD entitled "Globe Toddlers Adventure in Mexico."

*This was my honest opinion of this product that I was sent to review. I was not paid to say these things*

It's almost Birthday Time!!!

So I need to get on the ball. Joshua and Emma have birthdays coming up very very soon and I have not planned ANYTHING yet! UGH!  Life is so crazy, planning a birthday party is the last thing I have time for but lucky for me, I get two done at the same time. Emma will turn 7 on May 10th and Josh will turn 5 on May 11th.  I am thinking about nixing our usual parties of going somewhere like the skating rink or bowling alley and having a big party outdoors. The only problem with that is we live in Ohio and you never know about the weather.

So my plan is to have this all figured out by Friday.  I would like to find a theme that can be used for both a boy and a girl so I can order the cake and I need to figure out some fun games and easy food to serve. So I need your help!  Who has some kid-friendly recipes that are easy to make?!  And which one of you has some good games that would be good for an age range of about 5-8?  And who knows the best theme to use for both a boy and girl? I know you are all creative Mama's who can help me plan a party in just a few days!  I'm counting on you!  Oh yea, darn it. I guess I need gift ideas too. What's cool and new for boys and girls rigth now?! I need your ideas!  HELP ME! haha

Smart Mom Teething Bling Review/Giveaway

What Mom hasn't experienced this. You are sitting with your baby on your lap and he/she reaches up and grabs your necklace and either tries to pull it off or tries to eat it!  All of my babies did this so much that I stopped wearing necklaces when they were babies!  An awesome company called Smart Mom has put an end to that problem!  They have created the most stylish necklaces that are actually safe for baby to chew!  I received the new Pink Calcite Pendant and I loved it, especially because I wear a lot of pink!

Kendra and Amy, creators of Smart Mom Jewelry, started Smart Mom in 2002 as a way to promote practical yet pretty ideas for Moms and that is when Teething Bling was born!

The Teething Bling products are made of high-quality, phthalate-free silicone and is non-toxic, latex-free and even dishwasher-friendly!  It is the same materials used in other popular teething products.
Even though our little guy is only 10 weeks old, he already shows signs of teething and chews on anything you will put in his mouth!  I love to wear my necklace because it occupies him and gives him something to chew on while I am holding him yet it just looks like a pretty necklace. Genius!

They have a large variety of colors and are currently coming up with some great ideas for Dad's too!
That Crazy Lewis House definitely recommends this product to every Mom and we would have to say, you would be CRAZY to go without this great product!

Fantasy Jewelry Box Review/Giveaway

Fantasy Jewelry Box is an awesome jewelry store that has so many awesome products to choose from!  I have to say that my first impression of their website was a good one!

Since it's almost Mother's Day and I'm a good daughter, I let my Mom pick something out for herself. She is a busy woman and works hard and I thought she deserved something new and pretty to add to her collection. She picked out Stacey's Purple Pearl & Ceramic Stone Fashion Necklace Set.  You can tell cheap and quality jewelry apart and this time was no different. I was very impressed with the stones this was made out of!  It arrived nicely packaged and was in a cute, pink box.

Fantasy Jewelry Box also has a great selection of rings!  I love this opal ring and this eternity band!

Fantasy Jewelry Box also has jewelry for men!

*This was my honest opinion of this product that I was sent to review. I was not paid to say these things*

Did you know that April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month?

I can't imagine anybody abusing a child. Every time I see another case in the news, I hug my babies a little tighter and hold them a little bit closer to let them know how much I love them.

I recently found a poem that I wrote when I was just 13 years old after witnessing a mother repeatedly punch her 2 year old son after he tried to wake her up after a night of hard drugs and partying. I remember leaving that house with my cousin, crying so hard I could barely breathe, and feeling so much hatred towards that woman for hurting that little boy like that. Several years after that, I remember hearing word that she had been drunk and was hit and killed by a train.  Children are so precious and we should never allow abuse to happen. If you see or know of a child being abused, and you don't report it, you are just as guilty as the person doing the abusing.  Here's that poem I wrote so long ago when I was just an innocent kid myself!

Don't Walk Away

By: ME!

It's a spreading plague we pretend we don't see

It's all over our country, it's reality

Each day another child gets battered and abused

They don't know why it's happening, they feel so confused

They are missing out on life, not having any fun

The pain that they are going through can never be undone.

These innocent children fear for their lives

As the cold words cut through them like a thousand knives.

Why is this going on, they can't seem to find

They search for the answers in the back of their mind.

They have no one to love them, they think it's all their fault

Nobody deserves this kind of assault.

Don't pretend you don't see the pain that they feel

This isn't make belief, their pain is for real.

They silently pray for help as everyone ignores

What's going on behind those closed doors.

You may not see the tears but I know that they exist

Caused by the slaps in the face and the pain in the fists.

They need someone to tell them it's going to be ok

Don't let them hurt anymore, don't walk away.

Find-It Games Review/Giveaway ENDED

Winner was LLL with Leslie!

I love toys. I think I might like to play with them as much as my kids. It has been a rainy weekend here in Ohio so we were stuck inside a lot (aside from when we played in the rain) so it was a great opportunity for the kids to play with some of their games.  Lucky for them, I was able to introduce them to Find-It Games!

Find-It Games are these fun  little containers where you hunt for the hidden objects buried within the layer of recycled plastic pellets by shaking, turning and spinning them.  This game is so addicting!  Each one has unique items to find and they come with a checklist so you can check off the items as you find them.

The first one we received was the new Wizard of Oz Find-It. This one is full of all of the fun characters and objects from the movie such as a broom, yellow brick road and Toto!

Baby Must Haves

Our new baby is now 10 weeks old.  It has been 10 weeks of a variety of emotions, ups and downs, chaos and pure bliss!  When you are expecting a baby, everyone has their own idea of what they need and then they have a list of things that they would like have that might not be completely necessary. I was one of those people who had those lists, and after 10 weeks, I have compiled a list of things that I thought were just nice to have but truly are completely MUST HAVES!!!  Don't let anybody tell you that you don't need these things because they are things that will make your life so much easier!

#1. A baby swing that PLUGS IN!

Our baby was so colicky the first several weeks and still has bouts of it now and again. We realized the necessity of a swing that plugs in the first time the batteries went dead and we didn't have spares.  I sat and rocked the swing by hand why my husband ran to the store to get batteries. Not fun!  This swing that I have included is the Fisher Price Papason Starlight. I was shocked to find that you can purchase this swing on multiple websites for under $120!!!  I paid more than that for my swing and it doesn't plug in! BOO!

#2.  A portable swing!

My in-laws live around 3 hours away and since my kids are their only grandchildren and we don't live real close, they don't have baby gear at their house. We recently took a trip to their house for Easter and what I wouldn't have done to have my swing!  This is the Bright Starts Comfort and Harmony swing and is totally affordable at less than $60!

#3. A sound machine

With 3 older kids in the house with our newborn, it has been hard for our little guy to get much sleep. It seems like everytime he has fallen asleep, one of the other 3 come running through the house and he gets woke up. This makes a very cranky baby!  We have found that the sound machine not only drowns out noise from the other kids, but it really helps our baby fall asleep!  We definitely suggest the Sound Oasis S-650 from Dream Essentials. It has extra sound cards that you can use to have even more great sounds. My whole family has fallen in love with this product, not just our baby!

#4.  A good quality stroller!

One of the things that our baby loves to do is go for walks in the stroller. When he is grouchy, I can put him in a stroller and just go around the block and he will calm down and sometimes go to sleep!  Not just any stroller will do, however! You need a good one. We love Joovy!  Their strollers are so high quality and we love their colors!!  So bright and fun.

#5. Calming bath washes and lotion

Our little guy had a very colicky time from anywhere between 7 p.m.-midnight.  It would strike when you least expected it and there was little anyone could do. One thing we found that worked was a bath with calming lotions and soaps!  This stuff really did work on getting him calmed down. We could get him out of the bath and he would go right to sleep!

#6. A bassinet or co-sleeper

Being a parent to a newborn is exhausting, especially if you are breastfeeding.  Keeping the baby close is a really good idea. It helps you sleep better knowing they are close and it makes nighttime feedings and diaper changes so much easier!!!  We love the Kolcraft Contours Bassinet!  You can purchase one for around $160 and I think that's money well spent.

#7. A swaddle!

Gone are the days of mastering the art of swaddling with a receiving blanket!  There are so many great companies out there that sell swaddles so you don't have to mess with blankets that come loose!  We love the Woombie and the Halo Sleepsack. Both are extremely affordable and are great products that help prevent SIDS and to help baby feel cozy and secure!

I wish I had known I NEEDED these things before our baby was born so we could have registered for them!  It took a lot of sleepless nights to figure out what worked for us....just wish I could turn back the hands of time so I could have already had these great products before he was born!  Now we have a happy baby which makes a happy Mama!

:)

*This is totally my opinion.......nobody paid me to say any of these things or to endorse their products*

Award Winning Fishstix Review/Giveaway ENDED

Congrats Entry #76..........Donna!

Sometimes life gets so crazy busy in families that time isn't often taken to sit back and just relax with good, ole fashion family time!  I crave the times where me, Daddy and the kids could just sit around and play games and watch movies. Now it seems like the kids always have something going on and we don't have near the quality time we used to. One of our favorite things to do is play games and I am so excited that we now have an awesome new game to add to our collection!  Fish Stix is an Award Winning game from Peaceable Kingdom Press that my family has had a blast playing!

What I loved about the game was even though the age said 6-12, our 4 year old could play and even my husband and I had fun playing!  Fishstix won the 2009 Parents' Choice Gold Award, Dr.Toy's 10 Best Games of 2009 and Dr. Toy's 100 Best Products of 2009. You can click Here to watch an actual video of the game being played!

Peaceable Kingdom Press also has a lot of other great games and activities on their website such as their Award Winning Milk and Cookies Game.

We were also sent some of their stickers from their sticker collection and the kids have had a lot of fun with them!
