NEW BOOK FROM AWARD-WINNING ARTIST GARY TAXALI ENCOURAGES “SILLINESS” IN CHILDREN AND PARENTS ALIKE.
THIS IS SILLY!
By: Gary Taxali
If there is one thing the Crazy House kids love, it is books!!!! They know a good book when they see one and highly-anticipated first children's book from Gary Taxali,This Is Silly, is one of those good reads that kids like to read over and over again!!!
In this fun and colorful book, children and adults alike join Silly Sol, Lilly, Billy and Dilly and the rest of the gang from This is Silly in their adventures in Sill-eeville where not only is silliness allowed, it's encouraged!! You could see the anticipation on our 5 year olds face with the turn of every page, waiting to see what silly and wacky thing the characters were going to do next!
Gary Taxali, whose unique retro style has appeared on the covers of Newsweek, and with clients such as Rolling Stone, GQ, Esquire, Warner Brothers, Sony, and The New York Times, has entered the world of children’s literature with “This is Silly!,” published by Scholastic Press, an imprint of Scholastic Inc. and released this week to rave reviews from kids, parents and critics alike.
“I wrote this book to give kids a license to be silly,” said Taxali “because not enough parents and teachers embrace that kind of creative expression. My parents encouraged and laughed at my silliness whereas my teachers pointed to my silliness as a negative, but as it turned out, that was the key to my success.”
The book begins with a warning on the inside front cover that readers will giggle uncontrollably, and that is what we did! With every turn of the page, there were more giggles to be had as we watched the characters do one silly thing after another. The surprise at the end of the book encouraging us to be silly was the icing on the cake!!!

My daughter says the silliest things. For example today it was, "Look Mommy. I wear my cowgirl hat. Now we can play with the cows! Yee-haw!" And then she proceeded to bring out her stuffed cow and ride it! anita[dot]truck[at]gmail[dot]com
My son likes to open his mouth as wide and big as he can, and makes the smallest tiniest noise he can. Then laughs at himself after.

My 2 year old says the 'darndest' things. For example I asked her if she wanted to be Lady Gaga for Halloween and she said, "No, I want to be Lady CaCa" and she calls a firetruck a 'firecock' to name a few ;)

Isaak's always in his underwear (potty training). He tries on all of Mica dress up clothes. He's also always packing. Packing for what I don't know.
Mica runs around like a superhero, Buzz Lightyear, or blasting off like a rocket. Mica picks up on things that I don't even understand where he picks it up. Such as the other day he told me that he thought a girl from preschool was cute because she has a Hannah Montana backpack. We don't have cable, so I don't even know how he knows who she is. Media has gotten to him.
My son does so many silly things. My favorite is that he talks to the cat like it's his best friend. He lay's his blankie on top of the cat, and they sleep together ALL day. This is not a small cat, he weighs 25 lbs, and they are BEST FRIENDS! My son feeds the cat at least 10 times a day, secretly. It's bad, but they love each other.

My 2 year old niece does a bunch of silly things but what cracks me up every time is when she gets to my mom's house she takes off all her clothes and runs a large circle through 3 seperate rooms laughing the entire time.

I haven't been blessed with my own yet, but my niece and her friend love getting horsey rides from me, and laugh like crazy when the "wild horse" bucks them around - even if they fall to the floor.

My kids (ages 4 & 22 mos.) copy each other doing EVERYTHING. (dancing, goofy sounds, climbing on furniture, crafts, everything!!) It's like having one child and a very lifelike shadow. At least I know what the other one is doing if I can only see one of them!
Thanks for the chance!

My 2 yr old son watches his brother too closely. So when the older brother really has to go #1 and we are out, we will find a tree and keep him covered and let him do it out in nature. Now that we are dabbling in potty training the little one tells us he has to go and then looks sweetly at us and say "outside?". He is such a silly boy!

My 18 month old is a dancer. If any kind of music is playing, she's on her feet dancing!! She is very silly!
My girls are both silly all the time - Madyson is 3 and pretend plays with her toys making them talk in funny voices...and my youngest Faelyn likes to make you think she's gonna give you sugars - then runs away! Gotta Love em!
