I don't know about you but we at the Crazy House find reasons to dress up in costumes all year long! It seems like such a waste to only have costumes at Halloween time. 1 Week and Counting!

Can you all believe we are just 1 week away from Christmas?! I don't know about you but it seems like it came SOOOOOOOOOOO fast this year!  Total craziness. I blinked my eyes and it was here! Looks like I am going to be in a wrapping frenzy for the next week because hubby and I have been major major slackers in that department. We have boxes and tubs full of presents....but very few things have been wrapped.

I told you about the Elf on the Shelf, remember?! Well, one of the presents under the tree for Josh got unwrapped a little bit and can you believe that little stinker came out into the kitchen and made a claim that the ELF unwrapped his present?! Ohhh, you just never know what will come out of the mouth of a 5 year old!!!  He finally fessed up that it wasn't the Elf....as if we didn't know! *lol*

The funeral for the 20 year old who was killed in a car accident here where I live was yesterday morning. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done but I did manage to sing the 2 songs they wanted sang. The first one was called Sissy's Song by Alan Jackson. It was a perfect song about a young girl who was taken before her time.  The other song was Amazing Grace, My Chains are Gone by Chris Tomlin. I love any version of Amazing Grace and this one is just a beautiful version.  I didn't cry, remembered the words and besides the fact that I was shaking like a leaf, I am really thankful to have gotten through it. They had me stand right up front where I had to face the family and her parents, siblings and her fiance were right in the front row directly in front of me and I had to make sure I didn't make eye contact or I am certain I would have lost it. There was a huge crowd of family and friends who came to say goodbye and it really made me feel good that so many people loved Ashley and came to pay their respects.

The family was informed that an anonymous person came into the funeral home and didn't want to be known but paid for all of the funeral expenses. What an AMAZING act of kindness and generosity.  That totally restored my faith that there are STILL people out there who care about others and the fact that they didn't want to be known means they did it just to be kind. They didn't want patted on the back or a big fuss made out of what they did. They did it to help this family out and I just think that is the most amazing thing I could have heard right now.

I received a call this morning from my mother-in-law regarding my brother-in-law. Apparently they found a spot on his lungs that is going to be looked into. He was also diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy which is a crazy condition that is basically bleeding in the eyeballs.  He has almost lost complete vision in his left eye and now has to undergo a series of laser and eye surgeries to try and correct it.

All I can say is that every single day, I am still counting my blessings.  Despite all of the stuff we have been through, I still have my health and my family and we have everything we need. I am so looking forward to Christmas and I hope you and yours are all healthy and happy too!

 If you notice bananas starting to get a little spotty, don’t throw them away! Freeze them. Frozen bananas are perfect for smoothies, shakes and baked treats. If you are using the frozen Chiquita bananas for baking, don't forget to thaw before using them!

Chiquita Banana Freezing Instructions

1. Peel your Chiquita banana

2. Cut or break into 4-6 pieces (to use as needed)

3. Place in freezer bag

4. Mark freezer bag with today’s date

5. Store in freezer (for 1-2 months)

6. Use as needed in one of your favorite Chiquita banana recipes

Fun Tip: Chiquita recommends using your frozen bananas within 30 days for baking and within 60 days for smoothies and frozen treats.

We also received really yummy recipes like Chiquita Banana Socials! We made these and they were a HUGE hit in our house!

Chiquita Banana Socials:

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Servings: 5

Ingredients:■1 whole Chiquita Banana

■10 round, Baked crackers (regular or reduced fat)

■2 Tbsp. Honey

■1/4 tsp. Cinnamon

Cut Chiquita Banana into thin slices. Top crackers with Chiquita Banana slices. Drizzle with honey. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Now you have a yummy, healthy snack for your next party or just for fun!

Counting My Blessings

I am seriously super behind right now on so many things but feel like it is necessary to take a minute to just chill and relax and share what's on my mind. Giveaways can always wait until tomorrow I figure.

It seems that counting our blessings is almost synonomous with this time of year and I am guilty of not doing near enough of it throughout the rest of the year, I'll be the first to admit. But I also feel like the past few days have been pretty rough and to not reflect on all of the things I have to be thankful for would be wrong.

We went to my husband's family Christmas this past weekend. We had to go later than planned because our 8 year old had a soccer game he didn't want to miss so we ended up making the 3 hour drive to my in-laws late Saturday afternoon. We got there about an hour before the rest of the family arrived for the big annual party. After everyone left, it was after 11 p.m. but the kids insisted they needed to open their presents from Grandma and Grandpa so we stayed up! Aiden just loved his new tent! He went straight in it and played with the toys the kids crammed in it for him. It was so cute and it didn't take long at all for him to be completely wiped out! *lol*

He got a ball pit too and they ALL had fun playing in it....I hate it that my little guy is getting SO big! Ack!

Normally we would have went home on Sunday but since we got their so late Saturday, we opted to stay an extra day and were even going to let the kids "skip" school on Monday but we lucked out and we got a ton of snow so school was cancelled anyway so we didn't have to call them in after all!  They had a blast playing with their new toys and playing outside in the snow!! 

 My hubby was also happy to get to spend some time with his younger brother, his only sibling. Nathan is 22 and has had juvenile diabetes since he was very young and is having some problems with his kidneys. When I see how sick he is all of the time it sure makes me feel super blessed that my kids have always been healthy for the most part other than minor things here and there!

We left Monday to come home and it was probably not the best idea. The roads were slick and drifted from blowing snow and ice. The first part of our trip was pretty nasty but once we got to the interstate it was much better!  We stopped and had some lunch at the halfway point and we were shocked to come home to see nearly 8 inches of snow! It sure was pretty though and the kids were super stoked!

Along with the snow and ice, however, come negative things too like nasty and slippery roads that cause accidents. Monday night, a young girl who we know was killed in a car accident. Ashley Curry was pregnant and also had a little girl named Ava. I am going to sing at her funeral on Friday and I am really nervous. The last time I sang at a funeral was YEARS ago when I was a teenager and a close friend was killed in car accident on the last day of school. I have also sang at elderly people's funerals but there is just something different when a young person dies and especially because of the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. I felt so sad looking at her Facebook page and seeing how excited she was for Christmas. She even posted a status updates just hours before the accident about how happy she was to have went Christmas shopping and how excited she was to see her sweet little girl, Ava open her presents. Talk about heart wrenching. I would like to ask all of you to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. Also for a speedy recovery for Ashley's fiance, Brandon and little Ava who were both injured in the accident. I cannot even fathom the pain that these families are going through and God knows they must be struggling tremendously right now. A beautiful girl who had so much life ahead of her. We really don't know what tomorrow holds for us.

Here is a video of one of the songs the family wants sang at the funeral. It's extremely sad and I am trying to figure out how I can sing it without crying!

We had school today but we were on a 2 hour delay. In all honesty, we shouldn't have had school. The roads were still total ice. I was really angry about it knowing that this accident had just happened the night before and I took pictures just in case I find the time to send in a complaint. I know it's because Ohio's governor decided that we only need 3 calamity days but to be honest, I would rather my kids make up days in the Summer than to be unsafe and go to school with roads in these conditions! I took these pictures on main highways too!!!Can you believe that they would send buses out and make parents drive kids to school on these roads?! Absurd!

It's no wonder that tragedy struck again this morning. 3 people were killed when they were involved in an accident with a semi just a few miles from our home.  It was a woman, her daughter-in- law and a small child who were killed. Another small child was transported to a hospital in Indiana but I am not sure of the condition. I found out this evening that the daughter-in-law was actually a girl that we knew quite well back in the day. She went to our churches small Christian school, my Mom was one of her teachers. So so sad.

So that made 5 people here die within a  24 hour period. I am no longer digging the pretty white stuff. I am wanting it to go far away and not come back. Families shouldn't have to go through this EVER but especially right before Christmas. It made me want to go get my kids from school and hold them close and keep them locked up in the house with us where they are safe and sound. I am so very thankful that God has kept his hand on me and my family members and that we are all still together and safe.  My heart goes out to all of those families who have lost someone and I pray that they find peace through their pain. This Christmas, I am definitely counting my blessings.

In response to your many emails, I am here!  *lol* None of my posts that I had scheduled to "auto-post" over the weekend posted...blogger error.......and we were out of town for Christmas with my in-laws! We ended up staying an extra day, it snowed a boatload and there have been really crazy things going on here so I am SLOWLY digging myself back out of the pile of work I am buried under right now! It's the MOST Wonderful time of the year!

I'm going to admit it. I am beat. Christmas is my favorite time of the year but I am absolutely whipped! It seems like it has been one thing after going on, we have been out of town 2 full weekend in the last month and now we are getting ready to go out of town again tomorrow for another couple of days for Christmas with my in-laws.  Is this time of year crazy for you too?!

I had my heart broken last week by my 8 year old. He will turn 9 in a few months and is in the 3rd grade. He is our oldest and has always been such a joy in our lives. He came home from school and said those dreadful words I have NOT been looking forward to. "Mom, some of the kids at school say that Santa isn't real. They say that the parents just sneak down and put the presents under the tree on Christmas morning. Is that true?" ACK! You would have thought I would have been prepared for this question. Of course it isn't true I told him. And that seemed to suffice. But still in the back of my mind I am realizing that the day isn't too far off where the whole Santa charade is going to be up with my firstborn. How depressing. I love the magic of Christmas. I love how excited my kids get. I love wrapping presents and seeing my kids faces when they come down on Christmas morning. I love the traditions we have started. I love reading to them the REAL Christmas story and having them ask me questions about it and getting the opportunity to share with them why our family celebrates Christmas. And it just really makes me sad to think that before too long, the magic will be gone because the kids will all be too old to "believe."  BOO! I wish time would just stop for awhile so I can savor these years with my kids.

On another note, I love this time of year because, let's face it...I can ALMOST get the kids to be good! *lol* We started the "Elf on the Shelf" tradition last year and I have to tell you....if you don't do this, you are missing out!  This has been the most amazing experience with our children this time of year! The Elf (which my kids named Buddy after the movie ELF) reports back to Santa once a day on how the kids are behaving and then he returns in a different spot every day. The kids love getting up in the morning and searching all over the house for him! My family thinks he's creepy but I LOVE the Elf on the Shelf. *lol*

I need to get my shopping done...I have just a few people left on my list! My hubby's 30th birthday is on December 20th, right before Christmas so a birthday present needs to be bought too. Poor guy. I can't imagine having my birthday so close to the holidays. What a bummer! lol He really wants a new iPod Touch but what he doesn't know is that he is getting one tomorrow for Christmas from his parents so I am thinking I might get him one of the flat screen TV stands he has been eyeing!  I figure he deserves a comfy and cozy place to relax and watch tv so we might go ahead and make him that "man cave" he has been wanting!!! 

I hope you all are enjoying this time of year and hope you all are taking the time to relax and savor the memories that this time of year brings!! The years fly by way too fast.
