As you all know, our little man just turned 2 this week! He loves cars (He calls them broom brooms) so we wanted to have a Cars themed birthday party. Thanks to our busy schedule, I blinked my eyes and his birthday was here and we had nothing prepared. Rather than buy a bunch of expensive stuff online and pay extra to have it shipped here on time, we found a way to have a super affordable party right here at home with things we found at local stores.
First of all, we had a friend of ours make the cake. You can make it yourself and it's super easy...just buy the Wilton cake molds in the shape of the Cars characters! You can save a TON of money making the cake yourself. Our friend Laura made ours for us and she just made a regular rectangular shaped cake and then stuck the cars on top of the cake like they were on a race track. I loved how she decorated them, they were perfect! Super cute and our little guy LOVED having the car all to himself! We just pulled it off the cake and that's what he ate!
We also went to our local Hobby Lobby and found a checkered table cloth, checkered flag balloons and we even found checkered flag straws for the kiddos. All this stuff was under $10!!!
If you want to have a themed birthday party for your child and don't want to spend a fortune, this is a great alternative. We have all 4 kids birthdays within 4 months of each other so I try to save money wherever I can and because we saved so much money on the party itself, we were able to buy him his own Lightening McQueen Power Wheel for his present! YAY!
