Playing With Our Food. Fun Snacks for Kids!

I have been trying to replace all of the junk our kids eat around here with some healthier snacks and so far, I have to admit...I have been successful. I found that the key to healthier eating with children is A. Let them make their own choices and B. Let them have fun.  So that is what we have been doing. We have been playing with our food!  I know, I know. It goes against everything we were taught as children. If I had a dollar for everytime I heard my Mom say, "Stop playing with your food and eat!" I would be a rich woman right now. Heck, I have even said it to my own kids a million times! LOL

I love a fun snack for kids so yesterday we made cars out of apple slices and grapes!  All you have to do is slice the apples to make the car and then cut grapes into slices for the wheels! You can do this with different colored apples and grapes and it makes it even more fun!  I gave the kids each a spoonful of peanut butter on their plates and a little pile of raisins as well and they used it to paint and decorate their cars.

I have to say. Since I have been letting the kids have a little fun with their snacks, they have been reaching for healthier choices and have almost stopped asking for the other stuff. I have been keeping the pantry and fridge stocked with all kinds of fresh fruits and other healthy choices and those are what our kids have been going for. I might finally be on to something!

Do you let your kiddos play with their food?
