Fruit for All Project

We often hear about children in other countries who are starving but what many don't know is that there are millions of children right here in the United States who are going hungry. As a matter of fact, 1 in 5 children don't have access to enough nutritious food which to me is just heartbreaking. That means that over 16 MILLION children in America are food insecure RIGHT NOW and sadly, the summer months make this problem even worse as children do not have access to the National School Lunch program. Donations to local food banks are also down during the summer making it even harder for families in need to get access to food.  Even sadder, billions of pounds of produce goes to waste every year. It makes me sad when I think about the stuff that goes bad and we have to throw away in our own home when there are so many children out there who would love to have just a piece of it. Thinking about a child's rumbling tummy honestly brings tears to my eyes.  Anytime I have the chance to help provide necessities to those in need who are going without, I will do it wholeheartedly because I cannot imagine looking at the face of my own children and having to tell them that they can't have things like fruit because we can't afford it. I was so touched when I learned about Nestle Juicy Juice and Feeding America's efforts with their Fruit for All Project.  This new program will help get 35 million pieces of fresh fruit into the hands of hungry children all summer long and that to me is just amazing!  Now through August 2012, every time you purchase Juicy Juice or complete an online challenge, a piece of fruit will be donated to a child in need.  Everytime someone uploads a picture of themselves and/or their families helping with their local food banks, soup kitchens, etc. 3 additional pieces of fruit will be donated to families in need!  I will proudly do what I can to help with the hunger problem right here in America! Make the choice that you will join the fight too and then be sure to grab the badge below to show your friends/family that you are doing something to help nourish the children in our country who are going without!!!

What a great project. Despite Living in an agricultural area, we have so many kids that can't afford fresh fruit.

I love this. I think there should be more done in our own country and our own communities. We talk about those starving in other counties. While I pray for them as well I think we need to focus on our own first. I'm so glad they are doing this

This is such an amazing thing! It's so great that people realize there are people in our own backyards that are going hungry, yet we send all of our money to other countries. While I feel bad that they are hungry too, I think the US should focus on OUR hungry families.

This is a fantastic resource for our communities. My husband is a coordinator for our local Metro Food Bank, so I know A LOT about this. He works with Feeding America through many outlets & programs that they service. Serving the community in need is a HUGE part of our life & something that we are very passionate about on our own time, in addition to the passion that my husband has for his job! <3 I'm so happy for anyone that wins this and VERY excited to see that you are promoting this!!! <3

Thanks!!

With the way that the economy is hitting us hard in this area.... almost all of the food banks are either running out or have run out of food to help those that need. It saddens me when an elderly person comes up and is told we have no food for you. You all doing this? It's better than any other giveaway. I would much rather feed an empty belly than feed my ego saying I won I won..... keep up the offereings. Food banks across the country need your help
