SHRED Diet by Dr. Ian Smith

It's that time of year where we all vow to lose weight and get healthier but sometimes we have trouble finding which diet plan is best for us. I can honestly say that I am one of those women who have tried it all. I have tried all of the expensive mail-order diet plans and every crash diet in the world and yet I have still struggled to stay on course and be successful. That's all about to change thanks to SHRED.

When I first heard of SHRED by Dr. Ian Smith (You might recognize him from Celebrity Fit Club) I was pretty excited. I really need a plan that is spelled out in black and white that tells me exactly what to eat and when to eat it. I really lack discipline to do things on my own but when it's right there in front of me and all I need to do is follow it, I usually do pretty good. SHRED, The Revolutionary Diet that boasts of a four inch, 2 size weight loss in just six weeks combines strategic tools like combining a low glycemic index diet, meal spacing and meal replacements together.  You will find yourself eating constantly between the plans four meals or meal replacements PLUS three daily snacks.  Each week of SHRED is different but it builds on the preceding week helping you shed those stubborn and unwanted pounds.

Week 1, Prime, prepares you for the rest of the plan, focusing on meal spacing, proper snacking techniques and suppressing hunger without consuming too many calories.

Week 2, Challenge, is a confidence booster, showing dieters that despite past failures or plans they thought would be too difficult, they actually have what it takes to succeed.

Week 3, Transformation, is the toughest week but a critical seven days where most shredders start noticing a difference and many even drop a clothing size.

Week 4, Ascend, combines knowledge and skills of the first three weeks to keep dieters motivated and moving forward.

Week 5, Cleanse, pays special attention to enhancing your liver's ability to detoxify your blood.

And finally, Week 6, Explode, gives you a variety in the types and quantity of food and beverages to keep you moving along one day to the next.

I really wanted to wait an entire 6 week cycle before I posted a review because I don't like to share things with my readers unless I truly believe in it first but I can't help myself. Today is just the start of Week 1, Day 5 for my husband and I and we cannot believe how much we love this plan.  You are only supposed to weigh yourself on Day 1 of each week but I couldn't help myself this morning because I felt so great. I could not believe that I am already down 5 pounds and my husband is down a whopping 10!!!  The plan is easy to follow, uses regular foods that anybody can get at their local supermarket and best of all, we are constantly eating!  The foods are easy enough that I can send my hubby to his 12 hour work day with everything he needs for the day and it's foods that he can easily eat while at work.  The only extra thing I have purchased is an inexpensive smoothie machine but you can totally do without that.  I am so excited to continue sharing our SHRED journey with all of you! If you are still struggling to find that diet that works for you, I would definitely recommend SHRED! You can find both the hardcover book and the Kindle edition on Amazon! Check back next week for an update on both my husband and I's progress!!!

*This is not a paid post. All opinions are my own. A copy of SHRED was provided to us at no cost via the company and/or PR firm*

About how much a week does this cost in food?

Sarah Lewis said...

Hey Anonymous! Be sure to keep me posted on your progress! I would love to chat with other Shredders!!! @Jake Dohm, I didn't spend any more this week than I generally spend on groceries for my family. I went to our local Aldi and stocked up on fresh fruit and veggies. There isn't a ton of meat in the plan, mostly chicken and turkey breast, fish and a small amount of lean red meat if you prefer but no more than once a day from what I have seen. I will be posting a sample day on the plan here in a bit so you can get an idea of how the plan works and what kind of foods you get to eat!

I have just started week 2 and when I weighed in this morning I was pleased to discover that I had lost 7.2 pounds. This is such an awesome diet and I know that I will succeed and get through it. Good luck to you and your husband Sarah, I look forward to reading more as the weeks progress! Good Luck...

Anita Brinkley from East Texas, I started my Shred diet on Monday and I'm doing great.Eatting right and exercising 4 times a week for at least an hour. But I am craving Hollywood's nachos and cheese with hot peppers on the size. Somebody help. I need something I can do or eat to kill my craving.

Ronnie Current said...

Anonymous, when you weigh in for the first time it will be worth it and those cravings won't mean nearly as much! If I can do this then anyone can. Keep up the good work and keep us updated on your progress. Congratulations and remember that YOU CAN DO IT!

Anonymous said...

I would love to see an update! I started Monday January 14th. When I weighted the 21st I was down 6 lbs. Thats amazing for me. But, I'd been eating horrible for a month... so that probably had something to do with it. Nervous about my next weigh in on the 28th.

Sarah Lewis said...

We are just finishing week 3....I am down about 15 pounds now :) I started SHRED after being gone on vacation for about 10 days. We had been eating out pretty much every meal the entire time so it was definitely an overhaul on our diet!!! Check out the sidebar to see updates from Week 2 and Week 3!

I've been on the program for 4 weeks, this is week #5. I've lost 14 pounds. I believe I can reach the 20 pound make in the next 14 days.

I'm starting to like my new eating habits.

Sarah Lewis said...

Definitely Omar!!! Congrats on making it to week 5. You are a week ahead of us :)

Ronnie Current said...

I completed week 3 this on January 27th and I am down 14.4 pounds. Congratulations to all of you this is such an amazing accomplishment.

I can hardly eat everything he says..I also do WW and so when I decided to do this diet I tracked it on WW...I actually eat more and depending on my snacks I sometimes don't even hit my point allowance.
Only problem is exercising...my fault.
The food is common food, not paying for expensive far out menus... and got it for my Kindle for only $11 !!!

Anonymous said...

I am starting on Monday and very excited about it. My one question is: does anyone use prepackaged protein shakes instead of making their own?

Anonymous said...

Advantage Protein Shakes is what we do. They are 110 calories and lots of protein. You can get these at Sams in Vanilla or Chocolate Fudge. They are wonderful. We buy a case for $27 but you can get a four pack at Walmart in the pharmacy by the diet pills. Good Luck.

Anonymous said...

I am so glad to have found this blog about the diet! I am on week 1, day 5 and having no problem following it (so far). I didn't weigh in, which was probably not smart - but I tend to focus on the numbers too much and get easily frustrated so for the first time ever I am not watching the scale, but plan to let my clothes, especially my jeans tell the story.

I also use the EAS shakes and get them from Wal-mart. Keep posting results - I love seeing them!!!

Joan said...

I have the e-copy for my iPad. I am confused on the later meals times though. It shows:
1:00 - snack 2
3:30 - meal 3
7:00 - meal 4
8:30 - snack 3
Should the snack 3 come after the meal 3 and before the meal 4?
Other than my minor confusion I love this plan. I am only on day 2 but it definitely is one I can stick to.

Anonymous said...

Week1 Day3 So far so good!

Sarah Lewis said...

Hi Joan! We have followed it with the last snack at 8:30 after the last meal :)

Joan said...

Thank you for replying Sarah. I will follow it as printed also. I read your progress. You are doing great!

Anonymous said...

Just finishing week 4 and I am down 13 lbs. I like the diet it has been easy to follow. Question for anyone that has made it to week 5 where can you buy 100% pure cranberry juice? This is the only thing that has been hard for me to find.

Sarah Lewis said...

I found mine in the juice aisle at Walmart.

Hi I am just going to start week 2 tomorrow and am looking for some recipe ideas for the fish and chicken/turkey, getting alittle boring with out putting alot of seasoning etc.. any ideas? + I have a dinner with a few girls at an Italian resturant tomorrow and I really am trying to stay on track with out making a big deal at the restuarant about a diet thing if you know what I mean. also trying to keep the cost down any Ideas appreciated. Thank You glad to find this site, thank you

Sarah Lewis said...

Seasonings are unlimited so feel free to experiment! We have had chicken every way imaginable the past few weeks. Just don't fry it. Our favorite is cut up and seasoned with lemon pepper and served over rice!

Starting week 2 today. Only lost 3 and 1/2 pounds the first week so a little disappointed, but going to stick with it. Hopefully I will notice a big difference this week. Wanting to drop 25 to 30 pounds. Thanks for posting others results. Sure helps to know there are others out there trying the same thing.

Hi I saw this plan on The Steve Harvey show and I am thinking about trying this plan. My only concern is I can not have sugar at all. Are there any smoothie or snack that you can eat on this plan that have NO sugar. I can not have Splenda either.

Sarah Lewis said...

There are plenty of snacks that you can eat without sugar! I don't add any sugar into my smithies either.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Sarah I guess I just need to get the book and get started. Trying to lose 30 pounds. I will definitely be blogging here when I start to keep my self accountable.

Sarah Lewis said...

Smoothies I meant. Doggone autocorrect. Lol I have 30 more pounds to lose as well so hoping a new cycle will keep me moving toward that goal. I lost 23 on the first cycle and would be thrilled to do another 10 or 15 this time around!

Anonymous said...

I wish you we'll Sarah and will be looking for your progress on this blog.

Anonymous said...

Well (my bad)

Anonymous said...

I also saw the Steve Harvey show. I have lost almost 100 lbs, but I still have another 100 to go. I am diabetic, so I have to watch my sugar. I think I'd like to find out more about this plan. I also like the WW system, but I would like to get a jump start again. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!

I am nervous to start this as I only need to loose 5# and this is more food than I normally eat, including wine! I am 5'2", 117. Seriously, I'm afraid I'm going to gain weight!
All posts seem to have much more to lose. Anyone smaller have success with this? SB

Sarah Lewis said...

My sister is small like you and she started this week. It's ok to skip the snacks if you aren't hungry, just don't skip the meals. They are the most important! :) That is what my sister has been doing.

Anonymous said...

I'm so excited! A friend and I just started this plan on Monday, 02.18.13. We've both following the plan very strictly so far. I love the convenience of the food (believe it or not I had everything on hand!) which makes it easy to follow. My suggestion to any and everybody following this plan is to prep your food as much as possible (that has helped me tremendously!). I haven't gotten on the scale (since Day 1), but my clothes are feeling loose ;)

Anonymous said...

Hi everyone, I purchased the book to loose the baby weight [he's 8 months], I'm currently on week 4 and very happy with the results
If I can may a few suggestions:
Drink your water!
Measure yourself! My sister and I started the same day, we are the same height @ 7 lbs difference:

I lost 13 lbs and 6" off my waist vs my sister 9 lbs and 8" off her waist.
I keep a 140 calorie protein drink or a bar on my desk to avoid skipping a meal.
Thank you Sara for your post, not many people are doing this diet where we live =-(

Anonymous said...

Hello everyone! I'm also doing the shred diet. I'm on week 3 day 3 & I'm down 12 lbs.. I'm super excited & can hardly wait for the end of week 6.

Anonymous said...

I just bought this book and I am really excited to begin, this site has really helped me feel good about taking the first step. I was concerned about the snacks and times of meals because I work swing-shift on my job. But all that changed when I purchased Yoplait light yogurt, they are only 90-100 calories each, with no corn syrup. As well as Silk Almond has small lunch box sized Almond milk in Dark chocolate that is to DIE for, and it's only 100 calories. I hope these aren't cheats... Good luck everyone, and thanks so much Sarah for sharing your story and encouraging others!!

Anonymous said...

Hi shredders, I purchased the book today and plan to start Monday. Congrats to all of you, you're all winners.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for all the posts. I haven't started yet but have a question. I have hypothyroidism, so losing weight is a challenge for me. Do any of you have this problem and if so are your results typical? Thanks for responding.

Anonymous said...

Hello everyone! A friend from work bought this book for me. At first I thought I was never going to read the book or follow this diet but over the weekend I was reading the book and realized that this is something I can actually stick to. I am so desperate to lose weight. I’m going on a cruise on April 6 and I need to lose at least 15 pounds by then. I started the diet today...Wish me luck!!!

Mcc said...

Regarding Hypothyroidism: YES! You can still lose! I have it and am also 52. I've lost 7.8lbs in 2 weeks. It's a bit slower, but it CAN be done! Don't give up! Good luck!

I AM IN MY SECOND WEEK THIRD DAY OF THE DIET. IT IS GOING QUITE WELL FOR ME. I HAVE NOT WEIGHED MYSELF I WANT TO WAIT UNTIL THE END. I DONT WANT ANY DISAPPOINTMENTS. I ACTUALLY WORE A SHIRT TODAY THAT WAS TOO TIGHT A FEW MONTHS AGO. SO THATS GOOD NEWS.I HAVE A QUESTION,ON THE DAYS THAT YOU CAN HAVE 4 SNACKS, WHAT TIME DO YOU HAVE THAT FOURTH SNACK. ALSO I AM A VEGETARIAN IS IT OK TO EAT MEAT SUBSTITUTE.

Sarah Lewis said...

I eat very little meat myself and the book says substitutions are fine. I have my last snack around 90 minutes before I go to bed, usually around 8 pm! Good luck. It feels great when clothes start to fit again!

I just started the diet, I am on Day 4 week 1. I am trying to loose 25 pounds.

Marquette said...

I just started W1 this week and have been mapping out my meal plans for the upcoming weeks. Though I'm only finishing up day 3, I noticed that I've been experiencing some strong hungry pangs right after the first snack that feel like they last until the last meal of the day... given that week 2 and week 3 are mainly or in part liquid diets- I'm extremely concerned about whether I'll be able to last. Especially after my workouts... how did some of you push through... or is it just that my stomach is being greedy?? Please help!!

Anonymous said...

I had the hunger pangs as well. Before the diet I was snacking constantly. This is the fifth day of the second week of the diet for me. What I do when I start to feel alittle hungry I chew a piece of sugar free gum or drink a glass of water and that generally helps. The hunger pangs will go away. Just hang in there.

Marquette said...

Ok. Thank you. Will do. I appreciate it.

Anonymous said...

This is to anyone that has doubts. I will be starting the third week of the diet on tomorrow. I heard it is the toughest week but also its where you really start to notice a difference. I already have noticed a difference in the way that my clothes have started to feel alittle looser. In the past I have been on Weight Watchers which worked for me but the results took alot longer. I am so happy that I started this diet. For anyone that wants quick results THIS IS IT.

Valerie

Hello All!
Today I'm on Week 2, Day 1. This eating plan has been very simple to follow with tons of choices. The most difficult thing that I have found is the constant eating. I know my co-workers must think I have a problem, eating at 8:30, 10:00, 11:30, 1:00 and 3:30!!! But I'm making it work. As of today I'm down 13.2 pounds!!!!!! Please keep in mind the heavier you are the greater the weight loss and I started at 268.4. Looking forward to Week 2.
Love It!

Anonymous said...

If you can keep a spreadsheet of your meal plan. It helps to see the whole week planned out and allows you to make those purchases needed to supplement what you have at home. Does anyone have a great recipe for a fruit smoothie or is there a smoothie I can purchase and keep in the fridge at work?

Anonymous said...

Dole has smoothies that are in the freezer section at Wal-mart. They are less than 200 calories but you have to add your own juice to them and shake them until it blends together. They are handy if you are in a rush but I prefer to make my own.

Anonymous said...

Ok people, I started the shred diet about 3 weeks ago and the first two weeks I gained weight. It was due to water retention and high blood pressure but now I am in week 3, day 1 and I am down 6 pounds. That is good considering the first two weeks the scale went up instead of down. Has anyone else experienced this?

L Collins.

Sarah Lewis said...

I also like the Naked brand smoothies. I had one today that was only 130 calories. Better to make your own but definitely doable if you need to buy one in a pinch!

Anonymous said...

What about the exercise? Is everyone getting it done? Being overweight, I find it difficult to do 40 minutes a day! Can I still lose if I am not so good on the exercise? Does water aerobics count since it is not cardio?

Sarah Lewis said...

I look at it this way. You get out of it what you put into it. You can lose weight with diet alone but it's going to be slower and you are not going to get a toned look. If 40 minutes is too much at first, break it up into smaller workouts and gradually move up. I started out with three 15 minute walks every day and now I can run over 3 miles at a time!!

Valerie said...

It's hard sometimes to get the exercise in. But do your best, make everyday routines an exercise, take the stairs, take longer routes, when watching tv keep a set of weights close so that you can do curls during commercials, practice holding in your stomach, that will work those stomach muscles. Add squats when you're just standing around, every little bit helps.

Valerie said...

I'm on Week 2 and loving it! This has been the easiest food plan for me. I have options and I'm nowing feeling full during the snacks and meals. The cravings aren't as strong and I try to keep my goals in focus. I have a Dr.'s appt in May and I would like to be down at least 20 pounds. After reading some of your posts I found EAS Protein Shakes @ 100 calories. They are great and they fill you up. I'm looking forward to my weigh in on Monday.

Wondering how the hibiscus tea and water with flaxseed/flaxseed oil taste? Not a tea fan, so a little concerned about these two.

Sarah Lewis said...

The Flaxseed oil in water is gross. I have to get ground Flaxseed and put it in my oatmeal or smoothies. Not a fan of tea either but 8 ounces is easy to choke down. lol

Started this plan with both my senior parents and my boyfriend. We are on Week 3 Day 2. Mom is down a whopping 10 pounds, Dad is down 5 pounds, boyfriend is down 5 pounds. And then there is me, only down a discouraging 1 pound and my pants fit more comfortably. The irony here is I have been following the plan the closest. But still I continue with the hopes that the 17 pounds I want so desperately to lose will disappear eventually. Plans is easy to follow, just wish the numbers on the scale were as easy.

Valerie said...

Hey 1 pound down, don't focus on the numbers. That is what usually recks our motivation. Focus on how your feel, how your clothes fit, and how great your family is doing. Hang in there! You WILL lose those 17 pounds.

As of today, I'm actually on day 5 of week 2 but started week 1 two wks ago. Traveled with a friend to NYC to celebrate her birthday last week and Shred was impossible for me to do while away so I just splurged a little and enjoyed my trip but paid the penalty when I returned...regained the 3 lbs that I lost during the 1st week of the plan! Today I definitely notice a difference with feeling and looking less bloated. VERY anxious to get on the scale but will wait until week 3 actually begins. Important thing that I believe helped me get back on track this week is where the Shred plan allows for snacks of 100 or 150 calories OR LESS I ate LESS many times (example: 90 calories cereal bars instead of 100 and 130 cereal bars instead of 150). I've also been drinking 2-3 16oz bottles of water with lots of squeezed lemon/bottled lemon juice mixed in. Seems to making up for that splurge and off week in NY and I'm really pumped up now! My weight loss journey continues!..

I'm about to start week three and have had no trouble with the diet at all. The exercise is a little hard, due to my medical condition, but I'm doing more than I usually do, so like Ian says, every minute counts. What I wonder is what comprises a milk shake? There aren't any recipes form milk shakes. Any ideas?

I AM ON THE THIRD WEEK 5TH DAY OF THE DIET. I HEARD IT WAS THE TOUGHEST WEEK BUT ACTUALLY IT'S NOT BAD. SO DON'T LET THE REVIEWS OF THE THIRD WEEK SCARE YOU. A CO WORKER TODAY ASKED ME IF I WAS LOSING WEIGHT. THAT MADE ME PRETTY HAPPY. THE DIET WORKS. IF I CAN DO IT ANYBODY CAN.IF I HAD NOT READ SARAH'S REVIEW ON THIS DIET I WOULD NOT HAVE TRIED THIS DIET. THANK YOU SARAH.

Sarah Lewis said...

I have to say........I still despise week 3. LOL Everybody is different though so it might be perfectly fine for others, I just miss real food. On the other hand, I have Week 4 to look forward to which is my favorite week on the plan. HAHA! Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so happy that I was able to inspire others to give SHRED a try!

Anonymous said...

I JUST FINISHED WEEK THREE. I DID EVERYTHING THAT THE DIET PLAN SAID BUT I DIDN'T LOSE ANYTHING. THIS IS DISCOURAGING ME. I HOPE ITS NOT BECAUSE REAL FOOD WAS ADDED TO THE PLAN.I HOPE I DONT GET THE SAME RESULTS THIS WEEK. HOW HAS THE THIRD WEEK BEEN FOR OTHERS?

Valerie said...

Heading into Week 3 Day 1, I forgot to buy lemons!!!!! Anyway, I had a 1 pound weight lost. I'm happy with that seeing that I gave into popcorn at the movies this weekend and a trip to a BBQ restaurant. I'm not beating myself up over these moments of bad choices but I must say I enjoyed them both. Back on program with a vengence. This week my goal is a 3 pound weight lost. Above all I feel better and my clothes fit a little different. I shopped this weekend buying dresses for spring/summer and I really felt good about how they fit, once I lose a bit more weight all will be great. My suggestion on milkshakes would be to Google lowfat milkshakes and see what you get.

Anonymous said...

Last week was Week 5. I was expecting to feel a little different. Needless to say I don't feel any different. Anyone have this problem?

Valerie said...

Does anyone know the reason for the lemon water in Week 3? I sneaked and jumped on the scale for encouragement/motivation, it seems that I may be cruising at another pound lost. Am I discouraged, NO! Slow and steady wins the race. With three weeks to go I'm hoping that I will lose a dress size or two. Right now I can't confirm that I'm down a size but my clothes fit a bit looser. To All Keep On Pushing, don't give up.

Anonymous said...

I am on week 5 and down 7.5 lbs., but that was all in the first 2 weeks. I am retired so have time to prepare all the meals & snacks on time. I have bad feet so cannot exercise enough. The diet book says you can use any/all spices you want...but does that include sea salt? I do a lot of hard-boiled eggs for my snacks but cannot eat them without salt. I also have a hard time finding soups other than Progresso chicken/noodles with sodium less than 470; getting bored with that one soup...anybody found any other products that qualify? What does Dr. Smith say about milkshakes: Nothing stated in his book on how to make them!!

Sooo happy you joined the shred team!!! I am totally proud to say I have completed week 5 today and am down a total of 22 lbs. With only week 6 left in this first cycle, I have crazy energy levels that I never had before. It changed my outlook on food and in such a short amount of time I have realized that you can enjoy food without overindulging in it. Which in my past, is what I have done. I was always a food addict. I would eat when I wasn't hungry, sad, excited, basically whenever!!! I have finally found something that I have control. I owe a lot to Dr. IAN smith for developing this easy to follow plan that changed my life. Granted I have a ton more work to do, meaning more cycles to get to my goal weight. I now face my weight loss challenge with an open mind and the strength to complete my goals!!!

I have been on this diet for 3 weeks, following it perfectly. My husband is down 9 lbs and my sister in law is down about 11 and I am not down a single pound. I run between 5 and 10 kms 5 times a week. I am working so hard and now I just feel like crying. I think I will just give up. Tomorrow is the start of week 4 and it just seems pointless for me. :(

Have you done your measurements? Are you sure you aren't losing inches!!? You could be building muscle which weighs more than fat!

yes. My husband measured me - no difference. I will weigh when I get up in the am but I am not holding out a lot of hope here. I fear too much fruit/sugar? I dunno. Also - how can both my husband and I follow the same diet/same amounts of food? doesnt seem logical...? thoughts?

Hello All,
Today is the first day of Week FIVE!!!! I'm still excited about this program. This morning my weigh-in resulted in 1.4 pounds down. I'll take it! Week-ends are hard when you just rip and run from place to place. But I find that during the week the program is so easy to maintain. This week I'm taking my girls to the lake for a little relaxation before Prom and Graduation. I plan to get out and walk as much as possible. I'll take my protein shakes with me and will try to stay on program. My goal will be to burn more calories than I take in. Looking forward to Week Six, then I'm starting over again. I am now down 15.4 pounds.

I am starting week 4 today and I weighed in this morning with the scale not showing any weight loss from the previous week. I must admit it was very disappointing, as every week I have increased my exercise on the treadmill. At the end of Transformation week I walked over 15 miles on my treadmill. Maybe I am gaining muscle. I started out at 264 lbs and I am only at 258lbs. I need some encouragement shredders as I head into week 4.

I have been on the Shred Diet for exactly 32 days, I have lost 22 pounds, wife 16 pounds. It is amazing how with just the 100 calorie snacks, eating at the times, the weight just drops. You must drink a lot of water as directed, but the weight does drop. Get you mind wrapped around what your goal is and go for it.

I am on Day 5 of week one. So far so good. I am enjoying the food and exercise. I just hope this works. The meals and snacks are so yoummy that I don't see how I can lose weight. I haven't been on the scale since my first weigh in last Friday. I am looking forward to this Friday though. Oh one more ting I love that my children can eat what I eat. Big Plus.

DeeDee 3 said...

Sorry I didn't spell check.

Can anyone tell me the time or how to handle the day like today when you're supposed to have a 4th snack? Where does it fit?

Sarah Lewis said...

Hi Dee! I understood the 4th snack to be had after your last meal.

DeeDee 3 said...

Thanks but now I'm confused. I hope I haven't been doing this all wrong. I downloaded the book and I've been following the sample schedule there which lists the 3rd snack after the last meal. I think I should've actually purchased the book. Someone please help/advise. Sarah Thanks.

Sarah Lewis said...

I generally have snack 3 after my final meal, before bed but on days where you get an extra snack, I fit it between meal 3 and 4 and then have the final snack before bed. Does that make sense?

DeeDee 3 said...

Yes. Thanks so much. I was getting frantic.

I am on my last day of week 2, I did not do so good my second week :-( that is my OWN fault though. I was down 5.5 lbs my first week, and gained 2 back :-( BUT I'm also a female, and without going into detail - well you can guess! I'm determined to start week 3 back on track, I can't wait to see the results after week 3, let alone after week 6!! I do enjoy reading about everyones success, great job and good luck!!

Hi shredders, congratulations on all your progress. I am beginning my shred on Monday. I followed something similar in the 90's called body for life. The workouts are not a problem since I do 3 45 minute wkouts a day 5x a week. I need to get my nutrition in check. so I will be blogging here and hope to have good results to share.

Anonymous said...

Down almost 5 pounds the first week, then nothing the second week but look thinner...start of third week noticed some fluid retention that could account for the lack of weight loss...I have cut back on the almond milk and yogurt in the shakes due to the sodium and will try to adjust the soups...but I have celiac disease and have issues with MSG or MAG (its ammonium cousin in some of the powdered low salt chicken flavoring - so am using gluten free broths that are low sodium but clearly not low sodium enough!

Anonymous said...

Happy i found this blog, just getting started( Wk 1;day1). Congratulations to all of you on your wt loss..Great Job! Well i know this will take dicipline, but overall it seems pretty reasonable with lots of choices. Throughout my journey I will keep you all posted as well on my progress.

Anonymous said...

As noted, just watch the salt in the ingredients esp. with the soups (broths) & smoothies (low fat milk, yogurt, and non-dairy milks have lots of sodium). You just have to be organized and plan ahead, have the kitchen well stocked with variety of choices...but overall it is quite healthy (all food groups)!

Responding to the person noting the difficulty with the amount of exercise...the 40 and 45 minute days are tough, but he tells you that you can split it up...if you can quite make the 20 or 25 - do 15 or even 10 3-4x a day...By week three or four I have been able to get closer to a full 40...also just split it up 22-25 on treadmill then the rest spinning/on bike or other activity.

smart thinking with the exercise.. Im doing better like you say building up to a 45 minute walk is the way to go. Thanks for your suggestions and great tips!!!

Im starting the diet on 4/8/13. I am really excited about it. I have always lost weight, but I always put it back on. I bought the book and I am getting overwhelmed with how to shop for the food for the week. Do i plan my food for the week and buy food for just that week. Pleaze help

questions for all you shredders? What protein powder tastes good. I have struggled to find one that tastes good..Also..I hate plain oatmeal, besides fruit in it, has anyone else put any sugars, or artificial sweeteners in it. I am starting this tomorrow and can eat all the other breakfasts, but thought I should throw the oatmeal in once a week.
Thanks for all the help!!!

Sarah Lewis said...

I buy my protein shakes already made. Bolthouse Farms is really good. I also don't mind Slim Fast. I buy Quaker Perfect Portions oatmeal. They have lots of flavors. The cinnamon is good with a little bit of sugar and butter. I think it's ok in moderation. Anything to make it edible right?! :)

Thank you sooo much. Your timing was wonderful. I bought stuff this weekend to get me through tomorrow afternoon, (as we had company), but by Mon afternoon.. it's to the store to stock up. I will try the bolthouse farms. I haven't ever had a protein shake that was "really good" so I thought making my own would be better. Thanks again.. I'll keep you posted on my progress. I am a person who medical professionals (including my husband) can't figure out how to help me lose weight. Here's to hoping this works!

I am so glad I found this site, it's great to read what/how other people are doing! I am on day 3 of week 3 and I have to say this is the hardest week for me. Tomorrow I am looking forward to meal 4 as I can have meat and potato!! So far though, this has been the best plan I have ever tried. The first week I lost 4.6 and the second I was down 2.4. I just feel so much better and am excited to see what the rest of the plan brings!

I picked up the book last night at Chapters and started looking through it. I am very interested in starting it, but I have a vacationn to Montreal at the end of the month. So I will be starting when I return. I have tried every diet there is out there and I think this one will be great for my husband and I since everything is written out for us. I had achilles repair suregery in December and since my injury have packed on alot of weight. With limited movement still, I might have some problems with the exercise in the beginning, but I am really looking forward to getting started. Thank you for this great blog, it has encouraged me more. I can;t wait till June 1.

I just started the diet on Monday of this week and am on day 4. I saw Dr Ian on Trinity Broadcating Network a while back and meant to pruchase the book earlier but forgot. My daughter bought it for me for Mother's Day at my request. The only question so far is the drinking of water during the meals. Do the other beverages mentioned count the same as water or do I drink the one glass of water and the other beverage during the meals? The Guidelines say you Must drink one glass of water B4 and one glass during your meals...Can someone please clarify. I have quite a few pounds to shred so am very excited about doing so.

Sarah Lewis said...

The water is in addition to your other beverages :)

Thanks so much Sarah for your prompt reply. I will begin today by doing it right. Will update with progress reports. Have a blessed day!!!1

Thank you for this web site. I just read about this new way of eating in the mag.First. Almost four years ago I went on the Food Lovers diet. It was extremely satisfied with this plan. I lost 60lbs. and 34inches. Weight is still off but I reached a plaeute. I want to loose 30 more pounds. I hop this change will help.

Hi Sarah and shredders...anyone with a solid recipe for a good milk shake in the program?
Thank you all :)

Well I started off very well on the diet and lost 3 lbs in 3 days, BUT it's not practical. I work, and can't say to my patients," hold on, I have to have a snack". Then today I had to take my granddaughter to the doctor, we were there 2 hours, so there went my next meal. I find its not possible to eat on time, so this diet is going in the trash. I must be honest, I only have 5lbs to loose! I am so sorry I downloaded this book to my ipad. $ 9:99 down the drain........along with the diet!
Another comment, I have to eat gluten free and no sugar, there are no substites and no info about veggies. There are good and bad veggies, so where is the list of good veggies. I HATE this diet!!

I am staring the Shred diet Tuesday. Is there anything in the book about what veggies are allowed and how to cook/season them? I don't want to get started wrong but don't recall reading this in the book.

Sarah Lewis said...

Most veggies are allowed (other than potatoes) and seasonings are unlimited in the diet although they do advise you to watch salt intake. I use olive oil and various seasonings in mine :)

Hi Sarah, I just wondered onto your site and saw the posts about the SHRED program. I am getting ready to purchase the book and have had several co workers successfully lose weight on this plan. I am SO frustrated and like you, have tried everything out there! I lack discipline and hope this diet and its structure works for me.....I am so fed up right now! Your posts and others on your site have really encouraged me! I will let you know how it goes!

Just started the diet today. Do you have to follow the time layout given or can we make up our own as long as it follows the three to four hour thing.

Hi Sarsh. I am happy to hear about your weight loss. I am on the 5th day of my second week. 1st week I only lost 3.5 lbs, but my hubby had a b-day in there where I took him to an all you can eat brazillian steakhouse.. So one of those day I cheated, I ate mostly veggies.. but still had steak and chicken and potatoes too. I'm happy about it because a loss is a loss. My sister in law is doing SHRED too and she lost 5lbs in her first week. My question for you is what are we suppose to use for a milkshake? I dont see anything anywhere in the book that explains it or gives any recipes for it? Do you have any idea, is it ice cream, frozen yogurt, frozen milk...lol please help.

Hi Sarah, I am 56 years old, and I have never in my life been this fat. I weight 230lbs, I a long way from someone who was 160 lbs all her life, but as my age kept going up so did my weight. I work in front of a computer all day. so I am not very active. "not to mention my weight doesn't help" I have RA, I am a cancer survivor, and I hate my self this way. I decided to try this diet, God knows I have tried everything. Please let me know how it is going for you and how much weight you lost. I need a lot of support. I am going to email you any tips are appreciated.

I heard about the SHRED diet through my cousin. After her first cycle she lost 23 lbs. and has started on her second cycle. That inspired me to try it. I'm on Week 1, Day 5 and so far so good. This is the first diet in a very, very long time that I have actually stuck with. Does anyone know if we can have Splenda or any other artificial sweeteners? I don't recall reading anything about that in the book.

Is the 2 slices of 100% whole wheat bread in addition to the foods listed for the meals/snacks or is it part of the foods listed?

Hello! I'm on week 5 day 1 of the Shred diet and I have lost 16lbs! :-) I'm 5'7" and now 154 lbs! Whoo! So happy I'm finally getting into shape! And Shred has been so great and mostly easy so far! I do have ONE problem though... I can't find pure cranberry juice ANYWHERE! I did see it mentioned at Wal-Mart and Walgreen?..but all I found was "from concentrate" or NOT 100% I'm not sure what to do?

read thru alot of the comments & i'm so excited to start! this is something that will work for me! i've got about 40 lbs i want to lose (maybe more) but after hearing and reading so much information i think i finally found something that will work BETTER for me!!!

100% is generally the same as "from concentrate" as long as there are no other ingredients, except for water, possibly.

Could someone help me just started Shred today - can you sauté veggies in olive oil or butter???

Could this be possible for someone who works night shift? I've had the book for quite some time, and I wasn't ready to start this diet until now!

Question for everyone . . I bought the shred diet book, but did not see where it says what a serving of vegetables actually is . . i.e., one carrot, one serving? Also, are there any recipes besides soups and smoothies out there . . would love to do a nice stir fry of the three vegetables with a piece of chicken for variety . . one last thing . . no grains???? No Quinoa, brown rice, . . Am I missing something . . I saw you can throw in a cup of pasta here and there, but what about all those amazingly healthy grains?

So glad to have discovered this eating plan, am finishing up week 1. I was already eating this way but indulged way to much in sugar, snacks and wine every night with dinner. I noticed an increase in my energy level immediately, thanks to more clean foods and all that exercise. My problem is this: I work in a large open room at a big table, with many others, ie. not exactly a desk job. I can eat my snacks no problem while working, but I just can't stop work to eat a meal at 11:30, another at 3:30, and with a snack in between I wouldn't even be hungry! So this week I've been eating either meal 2 OR meal 3 at lunchtime and it seems to be working. I know this is against what Dr. Ian is saying but I've never been hungry. How are other people handling this 3-meal/2-snack thing during the course of the workday? Thanks! Kim

It must be me. Don't see any comments on how you all prepare your meat. I know the way we have to cook them but what ingredients do you use to cook with....can you use olive oil, coconut oil? Please let me know what you are doing for the meat dishes. Thanks.

Hi all glad to know there are people out there just like me. I love the diet the first week I lost 7 lbs. Then the second week I lost only 1lbs. I have not lost any since the second week and I am now on W5 D2 getting a bit discouraged but I will continue. I am exercising and everything I'm thinking about cutting out my snacks but they sometimes help me through to the next meal. Any suggestions besides adding more exercise bc I am doing more than expected.
