There is nothing more pesky or annoying when you sign up for something and then you can't figure out how to unsubscribe from it. A lot of free trials will have automatic renewals and if you don't cancel the subscription in time, you will continue getting charged. I am going through this right now with something I signed up for awhile back online. It was a trial subscription for Wildlife Explorer from International Masters Publishers. I thought my boys would think they were super cool. When the first shipment came, I was charged just a few dollars and we received a nice binder with all of these really neat cards that had pictures and facts about all different kinds of animals. I thought it was definitely worth the price we paid and decided we should keep getting the shipments. 3 weeks later, I was charged $19.95 for a subsequent shipment that was on its way. I checked through the paperwork and sure enough, there it was in the tiny writing. Subsequent shipments were all billed at $19.95, not the few bucks that I thought I was signing up for. It took me days to find a way to cancel and when I finally got through to the 800 number, I couldn't understand a word the lady said on the phone and it took me nearly 30 minutes to get her to understand that I wanted to cancel my subscription and NO, I didn't want to give it another month. She gave me a cancellation number and told me they would process a refund on my account. Not only did the refund never come, but I have since been charged the $19.95 two more times. I tried calling them again yesterday only to find that they only have hours Monday through Friday. So frustrating! We have received only 1 subsequent shipment and it included 10 cards!!! I cannot believe we have paid so much money for this book and I am on the verge of canceling my credit card just so they will have to stop charging it! I sent an email to their customer service department this morning threatening to turn them into the BBB if they continue to charge me and give me a hassle. What a headache.
There are a lot of resources online if you are in the same boat as I am. For instance, you can find resources for a lot of things like obtaining a MyLife.com Refund and cancelling free credit reports. Just search Google! Unfortunately I couldn't find anything for the Wildlife Explorer so if I can't get anything resolved tomorrow, I am going to try going through my credit card company instead.
Moral of the story? Be super careful signing up for trial offers. Read all of the fine print and make sure there is an easy way to cancel BEFORE you sign up!!!
