How to Choose the Right Carpet Color

When we bought our new house back in the fall of 2012, there was one thing that my husband and I actually agreed on. The carpet in the den area has to go! I am not sure when we will work that into our budget though so for now, I am having to live with it. It is the most hideous maroon color that I have ever seen and even worse, the previous owner painted the walls RED so right now we have red walls with maroon carpet and it looks awful. Luckily it's a small room so it shouldn't cost us an arm and a leg but nevertheless, it is still something we didn't plan on so it's going to be a little while before we can get it replaced. In the meantime, we invested in a professional carpet cleaning to at least make our current carpet nice and clean. It had some stains on it that I didn't think would come up and to my surprise, the carpet actually looks pretty good, except for the color of course! I have started looking at samples and trying to figure out what kind of carpet we want to get when the time does come. Here are some things to consider if you are in the same boat!

* If you have pets and/or small children, you might want to go with a beige or light brown carpet. These colors go well with almost any wall color as an added bonus

*Choose a shade to go with your current color theme but also keep in mind that you might want to change that some day!

*If you have dark walls, go with a lighter colored carpet to make the room appear bigger

*You can visit a carpet retailer and bring home samples to lay around the house to see which one's you like best!

*There are tools available online where you can visualize how your room will look with different types of carpet

*Play it safe and go with a neutral color so you can change your decor as you wish without having to change your carpet color!
