Buying a new home is a HUGE deal. When we decided to start looking for a new home around this time last year, we had no idea how long it would take for us to find a house that we loved. There are so many factors to take into consideration and you have to really give it a lot of thought because this isn't like buying a new brand of cereal. This is a huge purchase that you are going to be paying on for a long time and you want to make absolute certain that you are making a good choice. We searched for over 6 months before we finally decided on the home below. We fell in love with it the first time we walked through the front doors and we knew we had to have it no matter what. It was the right size, right location and the right price which we had failed to find in any other home that we had looked at.
Owning a home has so many benefits compared to renting. The biggest perk I can think of is that you can do whatever you wish to your home. Don't like the color? Paint it! Don't like the flooring, put down new carpet or tile. You can literally do whatever you want to your home. The home we bought was in pretty good shape when we bought it so we didn't really have to do a ton of work aside from a few cosmetic changes like painting and doing a little updating on the wood floors. We could have moved in just as the house was but we opted to make the few changes that we WANTED to do prior to moving in. The greatest thing, however, was that we could do whatever we wanted in the kids rooms. We painted all of the rooms crazy colors that the kids wanted and hung decals and borders. We also changed out several of the light fixtures and updated the light switch covers which made a big difference. The point I am making here is that since we own our house, we don't have anyone to answer to for these changes. It's OUR house and we are free to do what we wish in it.
One of the biggest choices you have to make is whether to buy an older or newer home. If you buy an older home, you might get a better price but you are most likely going to have to put a lot of work into it to get it comfortable enough to live in. Unless you can do the work yourself, you are probably looking at some pretty big expenses. One of the best benefits in buying a new home is that newer homes are generally more energy efficient. Many newer homes have much more modern designs too which is a huge plus. I love new homes with an open floor design. A lot of older homes don't offer this. New homes are built for today's families which means you are going to get the home that your family needs without giving up any of the luxuries you want. A newly built home can save you time and money in the long run so if you are in the market to buy a new home, definitely keep this in mind.
