Fourth of July Food Ideas: Easy Grilled Chicken

If you know me personally, you will know that my favorite food in the whole wide world is chicken. I love chicken every way it can be cooked and I could eat it every. single. day. While I am not a fan of dark meat chicken, the rest of my family absolutely loves it so chicken legs are always on the menu for cookouts and parties during the summer. Here I will show you how to grill the perfect chicken legs for your next backyard party!

Easy Grilled Chicken Legs

Step 1: Turn your grill on Medium

Step 2: Rinse your chicken legs and pat dry.

Step 3: Trim excess skin off the chicken

Step 4: Season your chicken with your favorite spices. I prefer a mix of salt, pepper, garlic powder and a little red pepper to give it a kick. Use 1 tsp of each of the spices except the cayenne pepper and I just use around 1/4 tsp for that, unless you like it really hot and then, by all means, use as much as you would like.  The kids don't like the hotness of the pepper however, so I also make a handful with just salt, pepper and garlic powder. I also buy a ton of premixed spices to use when I'm in a hurry. I love lemon pepper and barbecue mixes! Make sure you put the spices on all sides of the chicken legs.

Step 5: Let the chicken sit while the grill preheats. I usually let our grill heat for at least 15 minutes before putting anything on it.

Step 6: Place the chicken legs on the grill. You are going to want to turn the chicken legs every 7 minutes until they reach an internal temperature of 190 degrees. Don't skip the thermometer! Undercooked chicken can make you very sick and the last thing you want to do is send your guests to the hospital! Chicken legs will take a total of around 30-35 minutes to completely cook through.

Step 7: In the last few minutes of cooking, add barbecue sauce to the chicken legs if desired. Leave on for an additional 2-3 minutes and then take off the grill.

Step 8: Enjoy one of the finest foods known to man!

Your guests will have no idea how easy this delicious recipe was to make and they will definitely come back for seconds!!!
