Choosing the Right Fireplace for Your Home

When we started looking to purchase a new home last year, one of the things on my list of "must have's" was a fireplace. A fireplace not only adds a cozy place for your family to hang out together but if you choose the right one, you can have a beautiful piece of decor that will add elegance and style to your home. There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a new fireplace for your home and we have gathered a list courtesy of The Clifton Fireplace Company to share with you today!

*Consider its purpose. Do you want a fireplace that will serve as a heat source for your home or do you want it for decorative purposes only? If you live in an area that sees a lot of cold weather, a fireplace can be a wonderful heat source and there are many options available including electric, gas and wood.

*If you are looking for simplicity, electric fireplaces generally come already constructed. These are great choices for smaller rooms like bedrooms and small bathrooms.

*Gas fireplaces offer a good heat source and even a flame without having to mess with the inconvenience of wood.  These come in all different sizes and styles and you have different choices to consider with venting.  Gas fireplaces typically do not require electricity unless a blowing system is required to help circulate the heat throughout the area.

*Wood burning fireplaces require a great deal of thought for construction materials. Most homeowners ultimately go with brick as it does not show smoke stains as well as some of the stone choices. If you are planning your fireplace on an ongoing basis, you will want to avoid lighter colors of stone.

*An alternative choice to a fireplace is a stove.  Stoves can offer a beautiful piece of decor to a room while being a valuable source at the same time.

*Consider the size of the area before choosing a fireplace or stove that is right for your home. If you have a larger room, you will want to subsequently choose a larger fireplace but for smaller rooms, a smaller unit will suffice.

Many places around the globe like the area of Gloucester, experience pretty cold conditions at some point throughout the year. Fireplaces are a valuable asset that can increase the value of your home and provide a wonderful place for your family to gather. If you do your research, you can find the perfect product to fit your families needs that you are sure to enjoy for years to come!

I never would have thought about choosing a fireplace. Every house we have owned has had a built in fireplace. It is totally cool that if you live somewhere that doesn't have a house that you can put one in!
