Where to Store Your Belongings When Moving

Guest post by: Robert Barlow

Moving, is, stressful. This is fact one of getting a new place, entire home buying experiences have been ruined or even called off by the stress and pain that comes from shifting things. The easiest way to simplify these problems is to have a safe and easy place to store what you need while you're in the process of moving. That way you can take it easily and gradually relieve some of the pressure. But where to put it?

With Friends and Family
You can always count on the people who care on you to take care of your stuff. Almost everyone calls on friends to help them move and if someone is willing to keep your things for a week or two so much the better. On the other hand other people’s houses are not as empty of possessions than yours and so you will probably end up with the lowest priority. As much as they care about you they're not going to move their own things around for yours. That exposes you to damage, and if their plans change, or things get in the way that could cause undue problems.

Containers
From shipping containers to trailers to caravans it’s fairly common to pick up something that can be dragged behind a car and hold a large volume of stuff. It seems practical, the things are all ready to move to the new place and you can keep them as long as you need to between moves. The problem is most of these containers aren't designed to hold certain items. Shipping containers let in dew and damp that aren't suitable for books, caravans jostle and move things and trailers are open to the elements, it isn't perfect, but it’s better than nothing.

Basement/Garage
Shift everything you can into the attic, the basement, the shed or the garage. You aren't using the space so you might as well keep your stuff there. It’s easy, convenient, and if you can find a way to get it into the new place rather than the old it means minimal moving when the time comes. This does come with the same problem as the containers. Dirt, dust, and stains might get into your property.

Storage
This is the easiest and one of the best options, storage spaces are cleaned out between the last person using it and you using it. It’s a simple purpose built space for you and while it doesn't travel andit’s not on the same premises you're moving to the guaranteed storage space and cleanliness make it a good base standard. These storage solutions all have their pros and cons, but they're the best ideas out there. Take into account what you're storing, and whether the risks are worth the potential rewards. Moving is a hassle, but having a place to put them should take some of the stress off you. Good luck.</p>
