Curious George's Town App from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

If you have a smart phone and a toddler, you are probably in the same boat as I am on most days. When we are out and about and I need something to keep our little guy occupied, I almost always hand over my iPhone for him to play on. He gets bored easily so it's important for me to have educational apps that he can play on. He is a huge fan of Curious George so we were thrilled when we learned about the Curious George's Town app from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. The app, created for iPad and the iPhone, was developed specifically for pre-school to kindgergarten aged children to help teach them smart saving and spending habits while engaging them in a virtual world complete with roller coasters, dinosaurs and farm animals.  Completing real-life challenges, children can earn virtual coins that they can use to purchase items to create their own town.

Since Aiden just started preschool this year, we thought this would be a wonderful tool for him to start learning about money and to say that he enjoys it would be a huge understatement. He has literally spent hours playing this game and never seems to get bored. I can see so many educational benefits through the activities. He is learning to count better and I love to hear him laugh when Curious George spills the jelly beans on one of the activities. Everything in the app is preschool user-friendly which is a big plus to me because it enables Aiden to play the game without my help.

The app also features a reward chart where parents can assign specific coin values to lists of real-world tasks like cleaning up their toys which is a huge bonus. The big lesson with this app is that your child will learn deferred gratification. In order to build their town, they have to plan activities, set goals and make choices which is a great lesson to teach children from a young age.

This app will remain one of the most played for sure. It is a game I feel good about letting my son play because I know he is learning from it and even better, he is having fun!

One lucky reader is going to win the prize above that includes a free app download and all of the Curious George items in the picture!
