If you are anything like us, your bank account has taken a big dip since school started. On top of back to school essentials, parents are also slammed with things like book fees, lunch fees, etc. which can mean a lot of money to shell out, especially if you have multiple children in school. This is the first year that we have had all four kids in school and by the time we bought supplies, clothes, shoes and paid their school fees, we spent well over $1,000. Now add to that 3 kids who are all playing pay-for-play sports this Fall and you can imagine how much money we have had to fork over in the past month. Since I am blessed with the opportunity to get to stay at home, I am always looking for ways to help lighten the financial burden off of my husband and that means saving money whenever and wherever I can but it also means making a little bit of extra cash whenever I see an opportunity. If your wallet is hurting after sending the kids back to school, here are some quick and easy ways that you can make a little extra cash to get your bank account smiling again!
*Have a garage sale. The end of Summer is a great time to purge and get rid of unwanted things that are serving no purpose aside from cluttering up your home. If you want it to be really successful, gather up a couple friends and have a multi-family sale. This is a great way to get more people out to buy your unwanted stuff and to make a little bit of extra money.
*Sell old college books. You would be amazed at how much money you can still get for some of those old books laying around that you paid a small fortune for. Places like Amazon will help you sell them and even cover the shipping so you don't have any out of pocket costs.
*Do freelance work. This is something that I have been looking more into since all of the kids are at school now. I love to write and there are some great opportunities out there for freelance writers to work in their spare time.
*Get rid of those old movies you don't watch anymore. There are several places online that will allow you to sell DVD's and earn a pretty decent profit. I'm not big on watching the same movies over and over again so this is a great way to make decent money quick. If the movie is a newer release or a classic you can get even more money out of them!
*Sell your plasma. Ok, this might sound a little extreme but the truth is, plasma is needed by hospitals around the globe every day. Why not make a little cash while helping out fellow citizens by making a donation? I actually know people who do this on a weekly basis because they can donate twice a week and they get $35 each time. $70 a week would take off about 1/3 of our grocery bill!
*Offer to baby-sit or pet sit! If you like kids or animals, this is a great way to earn extra cash quick. When I was a teenager, I used to offer a babysitting service on New Years Eve each year where I would take on a set number of kids so the parents could go out and enjoy some adult free-time. Depending on how many kids we had, I would enlist a couple friends to help and we would plan a full, fun-filled night for the kids. I made TONS of extra money doing this on special occasions. New Years Eve and Black Friday were my biggest money makers but you could do this just about any weekend and make decent money.
*Sell your gold! If you have gold jewelry lying around that you don't wear anymore, this is a great way to get decent money fast. Most reputable places will pay you pretty good for your unwanted gold.
With the kids all in school and in sports, I don't have a lot of extra time on my hands so these are all great ways to make extra money pretty quickly.
