Christmas is coming and it’s your turn to host, but looking around your home you’re ready to admit defeat (well, almost!) before you’ve even started. The kitchen barely works, you can’t see the floor in half of the rooms and your guests will be eating off their knees as you still haven’t fixed your dining table.
Well, never fear – these helpful hints will help you to transform your home and create the perfect Christmas atmosphere.
Have A Clean
Yes, it may not be what you want to hear, but a good clear out is the best way to get rid of all the things you don’t need, creating the space you desperately require, and can help you to sort through the things to be done around your home. It may help you to free up some space in that spare room, so you have somewhere for your guests to stay if they need to.
Whether you recycle, sell or give away your unwanted items to charity, you will feel much better with the extra breathing space, especially if you can make a bit of extra cash from it.
Revamp Your Kitchen
If your kitchen isn’t in the best condition, this may be the best time to get it sorted out. You don’t want to have to be cooking Christmas dinner for fifteen and find that your oven has stopped working, mid turkey. You also don’t want them to see the shabby state of the kitchen counters and cupboards, especially if your dining table is located in your kitchen.
The kitchen is going to be one of the most used rooms this Christmas so you might as well make it one you want to spend time in. Have a complete kitchen makeover and update it to something you love and are proud to show off.
Shuffle Around Your Living Room
With all the extra bodies in your home, you may need to rearrange the seating in your living room so you can all sit comfortably. Whether you throw in a few bean bags, grab some extra chairs oreven an ottoman, you’ll have some additional seating for people to perch on. You also need to arrange the seating so that it is easy for people to socialise and talk, as well as creating an area for you all to let loose and have a dance – especially after the alcohol has started flowing!
Decorate, Decorate, Decorate!
What is Christmas without decorations? It’s what brings in the festive cheer, makes everything have that ‘Winter Wonderland’feel and gets you in the mood for all things Christmas. Put up your Christmas tree, hang your fairy lights and string tinsel all around. You should also decorate your dining table to make it more festive; place your crackers, add tinsel, make Christmas place cards and add candles.
Sort Out Your Entertainment
Think about who you are inviting over and think what they may enjoy; some party games could go down really well such as Pictionary, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and even the Wii. You should compose a Christmas playlist and leave it on as background music, as well as creating a playlist of songs to dance to when the mood strikes. Lastly, don’t forget to let everyone open their presents, as this could provide entertainment in itself!
Now that you know what you need to do to prepare your home for Christmas this year, you better get started; it’s not going to happen by itself, and Christmas is fast approaching.
