Quick and Easy Old Fashion Floats 

Old fashion ice cream floats make a great dessert. They're quick and easy to make using your favorite flavor of ice cream or gelato. You can serve them in vintage float glasses with straws or with gelato cups and spoons and other Gelato Products. However you serve them, they're sure to be a hit with family and friends on any occasion.

Creamy Chocolate Float


Ingredients: (4 servings)

8 scoops chocolate ice cream or gelato
1 cup milk
4 cups chilled carbonated water
3/4 cup chocolate syrup
whipped cream

Directions: Using four 16-oz. float glasses, place 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup in each glass. Add 1/4 cup milk and 1 cup chilled carbonated water to each glass, then stir until foamy. Add two scoops of chocolate ice cream or gelato to each glass and top with whipped cream.

Coffee Almond Float

Ingredients: (4 servings)

4 tablespoons instant coffee
4 cups low-fat milk
2 tablespoon hot water
2 cup vanilla ice cream or gelato
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon almond extract

Directions: Chill four tall float glasses in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Using a small pitcher, dissolve coffee granules in hot water and stir. Add milk, brown sugar and almond extract. Place one scoop of vanilla ice cream or gelato in each glass, then pour coffee mixture over the top. Serve with whipped cream, a maraschino cherry, and crushed almonds on top. 

Caramel Macchiato Float

Ingredients: (8 servings)

6 cups cold brewed coffee (your favorite blend)
1 cup low-fat milk
4 cups coffee ice cream or gelato
4 cups dulce de leche ice cream
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup caramel flavored syrup
caramel sundae syrup

Directions: Chill eight tall float glasses in the freezer for about 30 minutes. In a large pitcher, combine cold brewed coffee, low-fat milk, caramel flavored syrup and sugar. In chilled glasses, divide ice cream into eight glasses, then pour cold brewed coffee over the top. To serve, garnish float with whipped cream and drizzles of caramel sundae syrup.

Candy Rock Float

Ingredients: (2 servings)

6 scoops vanilla ice cream or gelato
2 cups lemon-lime soda, chilled
2 packages of Pop Rock candy (your favorite flavor)

Directions: Chill two tall float glasses in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Place one scoop of vanilla ice cream or gelato in each glass, then sprinkle with candy. Repeat to create three layers of ice cream and candy, then top with lemon-lime soda.

  1. Mmm, the chocolate float sounds yummy! I haven't had a float in a long time. Thanks for the idea of using chocolate ice cream, instead of vanilla.
